Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a good time to talk to your kids about the pitfalls of dating abuse. Dating violence affects many teens – one in three on average. Last year, our Prevention Educators made presentations at 18 area high schools, reaching over 4,000 students. Eight presentations were also made at local middle schools. Teens who found themselves in abusive relationships were also helped by Family Shelter Service at the DuPage County courthouse. There court advocates helped these teens apply for and obtain Orders of Protection. If you know someone who needs help, please have them call our hotline at 630-469-5650. If you would like to have a presentation about teen dating violence at your school, please email Tikiya: tyoung@familyshelterservice.net.
