Last summer’s State of Illinois stopgap budget left out funding for domestic violence, despite the state’s contract — through DHS — with domestic violence agencies such as ours. While Family Shelter Service has taken many steps to reduce dependency on government funding, the loss of this revenue harms not only the people who are seeking safety from domestic violence in our community, but threatens the safety of individuals in every community in the state.
Please call your local legislators, identify who you are and that you are calling on behalf of Family Shelter Service. Ask them to sign on as co-sponsors of HB 3214/HB 3259 if they are a House member or SB 1679/SB 1695 if they are a Senate member. These bills would supply the approximately $18.6 million needed to fund the FY17 service contracts.
