Moments in our History: The DuPage Domestic Violence Protocol

In 1989, Family Shelter Service played a significant role in the development and implementation of the DuPage County Domestic Violence Protocol, which provides the structure for the community’s response to domestic violence. An important part of that protocol involves local law enforcement. In DuPage County, each police officer who goes out for a domestic violence-related incident must report it to our hotline counselors for follow-up with the victim. Many police officers also carry our hotline card and hand it out to people who need our help.
