“The Scarf Project” to Raise Funds to End Domestic Violence
Knit or crochet a neck scarf to raise funds for Family Shelter Service!

Janet Schurmeir Avila, owner of String Theory Yarn Company in Glen Ellyn is sponsoring "The Scarf Project" to benefit Family Shelter Service and victims of domestic violence in DuPage County.
“I have always thought of knitting as a healing, calming activity. When I look back on my life, my needlework has gotten me through some tough times – and many of my customers say the same thing,” shares Janet Schurmeir Avila, owner of String Theory Yarn Company at 477 North Main Street in Glen Ellyn.
So, it is not surprising that Avila, who believes strongly in the therapeutic benefits of art, would sponsor a fundraiser, “The Scarf Project,” to support Family Shelter Service, a non-profit shelter and counseling agency that helps women and children break free and heal from domestic violence.
“The Scarf Project” is a community crafting effort that culminates as a holiday sale that begins on November 26 and runs through December 31. A variety of donated hand-knit and crocheted neck scarves will be available for purchase during that time, with 100% of the proceeds going to Family Shelter. To learn how to participate in “The Scarf Project, visit String Theory Yarn Company at their shop in Glen Ellyn or call them at 630- 469-6085.
